Power of one ICGS event

Article reprinted from Interfaith Explorers newsletter

This month’s interfaith adventure is the “Power of One” annual awards program put on by the Interfaith Council of Greater Sacramento.  It was presented as “An Evening of Unity” and was held on May 22nd at the California Museum.  We arrived early and were able to go upstairs and see wonderful hands-on exhibits.

Prior to the program, the auditorium was filled with people from all faith traditions.  This year’s three honorees were:  Gabby Trejo from Sacramento Area Congregations Together; Liz Igra from Central Valley Holocaust Educators’ Network, and Jon Fish, past President of the Interfaith Council.

In addition to hearing from the honorees, we heard from SMUD about their sponsorship of community program and providing volunteers for the programs.

In addition, Phillip Talbert, the United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District.

It was a wonderful evening talking and seeing ‘interfaith friends’ after a few years of being unable to attend events.  The evening was heartfelt and pleasant.  Each speaker reminded us to continue interfaith work, for peace building and community connections, which are crucial in today’s world.
