Racial Prejudice

By June 3, 2020No Comments

And God said; Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 1:26-27

O Mankind, indeed we have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.  Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.  Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

Quran 49:13

Ye are all the leaves of one tree and the drops of one ocean.

Bahá’u’lláh, The Baha’i Faith

He who is your Lord, the All-Merciful, cherisheth in His heart the desire of beholding the entire human race as one soul and one body.

Bahá’u’lláh, The Baha’i Faith

Friends,

God is the Creator of us all, so in the sentiments of the Bible, we are all the Children of God and in the words of the Baha’i Faith, we are all one human family.

We at the Interfaith Council are extremely saddened by yet more instances of black men being killed in this country.  George Floyd is just the latest, seemingly killed for a possible misdemeanor and ended losing his life.

Our hearts are broken by the racial prejudice that continues to eat at the vitals of the soul of America – a cancer that has plagued us for 500 years and continues unabated today.  Why can’t we see each other as truly our brothers and sisters? Why is it so hard to see God in each other?  This is a topic that the Interfaith Council suggests all faith traditions and religions discuss.  Racial prejudice affects each one of us and hurts us individually and as a country.  Let us be united against racial prejudice and dedicate ourselves to talking about this issue.

“Let all be united in this Divine power of love! Let all strive to grow in the light of the Sun of Truth (God), and reflecting this luminous love on all men.”

Abdu’l-Baha, The Baha’i Faith
