World Peace Rose Garden
From the President’s Desk
It’s hard to believe the International World Peace Rose Garden just celebrated its 20th Anniversary! The garden at 15th and Capitol Ave is such a special place. The idea of people gathering there, thinking about and praying for world peace, touches everyone’s heart. Plus, you have 50 plaques throughout the garden with inspirational poems from Sacramentan school children about peace. This truly breaks our hearts as we see children bearing the brunt of so much chaos and conflict. Then last but not least, you have dozens and dozens of different hued, fragrance, and sized roses.
Abdu’l-Baha, the son of the Prophet/Founder of the Baha’i Faith, Baha’u’llah, said,
“In reality all are members of one human family —
children of one Heavenly Father. Humanity may be
likened unto the vari-colored flowers of one garden.
There is unity in diversity. Each sets off and
enhances the other’s beauty.”
If you look at that beautiful rose garden, with the varied colors and sizes, then imagine the human family, you can see the same beauty in the human family. There IS unity in diversity, accepting everyone’s differences, not in fear, but in acceptance. Then, reading those plaques, we can see how the rose garden does represent the human family we see around us. Let us dedicate ourselves once more, in accepting those around us, regardless of the differences.
